Oppo Enco M31 Review: Incredible Sound, Pocket Friendly Price!

Oppo launched a couple of audio products in India – Oppo Enco W31 True Wireless Earphones and Oppo Enco M31 Bluetooth Neckband Earphones. Suddenly there’s been this wave of wireless audio products in India from the likes of OnePlus, Realme, Xiaomi and Oppo.

Products like OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z, Realme Buds Air and Buds Air Neo, Xiaomi TWS 2 Earphones, etc. are here and it get’s confusing as to which one to buy. Well this article will either increase or decrease that confusion based on what do you prefer more – sound quality or battery life?

Today we are going to talk in detail about the Oppo Enco M31 Wireless Bluetooth Earphones. These neckband-type earphones from Oppo are incredible and frankly one of the best offerings out there under the ₹3000 category. Let’s talk about each aspect in detail.

Build and Design

Oppo Enco M31 earphones are mostly made out of plastic and aren’t the best out there when it comes to the build quality. The build quality is fairly basic and nothing premium here. These earphones are light weight, which helps when you’re using them for a long period of time. After a point one would forget that these earphones are one them, which is a good thing.

As far as design goes, the Oppo Enco M31 have an in-ear type design and they do come with replaceable ear tips inside the box. The fit is snug and these earphone won’t fall off the ears while working out or running. I’ve used these earphones for an outdoor run and didn’t have any issues with the fit. Talking about the fit, the sound isolation is really good. You won’t be able to hear the surrounding noise while listening to music at higher volumes. This might be a good or bad thing based on where you use these earphones.

One design element which I do not like is the button placement. All the buttons are placed on the neckband itself and are kind of hard to reach. I like the button placement of OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z better, wherein the buttons are paced on the wire rather than the neckband. Anyway, there are a total of 3 buttons – Volume up (can be used to skip track), Volume down (can be used to go to previous track) and a multi-function button used to switch between various modes, play/pause music, or answer/cut calls.

Overall, the build and design are pretty basic and nothing exciting.

Sound Quality

Alright now let’s talk about the main thing with any audio product and that is the sound quality. How do these earphones sound? Well, these earphones sound incredible. At first I couldn’t believe how can these earphones sound so good for the price of ₹2300. The mids and highs are very clear and there’s a good amount of low end as well. Overall sound stage is pretty wide and clear which makes them perfect for listening to music. Long music listening sessions are really good with the Oppo Enco M31 earphones.

The sound quality is excellent because of the support of LDAC audio codec. LDAC is a closed source lossy audio coding solution developed by Sony originally for Xperia handsets. Later it was open (AOSP) to all OEMs supporting Oreo and up. Hence all devices running Android Oreo and up support the LDAC codec. You can read more about LDAC here – LDAC: Everything you need to know!

The sound is very clear and that is the main thing. One can instantly notice the clarity in these earphones and that is an enjoyable experience. For the price of ₹2300 the sound quality is really good and Oppo has done an incredible job here. Oppo has a pretty awesome audio background. They used to make really high end amplifiers and maybe they used that expertise to fine tune these Enco M31 bluetooth earphones.

All in all, these earphones from Oppo sound incredible.

Magnetic Control

Oppo Enco M31 Wireless Bluetooth Earphones come with magnetic control. Basically there are magnets on the ear tips which also act as an ON/OFF switch (There’s no physical on/off switch with these earphones). When the ear tips are magnetically attached, these earphones will shut OFF. And on the other hand, when you detach them, they will turn back ON.

This control is very useful when you’re listening to something and a person comes up to talk to you. You can remove the earphones, attach them magnetically and your music will stop playing. This is a very convenient feature and works really well. Although, the music doesn’t start playing again once you detach them.

Battery and Charging

Oppo Enco M31 aren’t the best when it comes to battery life. With LDAC ON (why would one use these without LDAC?) I was getting somewhere around 6.5 hours of music playback at 80% volume level. Oppo claims 8 hour battery life with LDAC on and 6.5 hours is what I was getting. To be honest, 6.5 hours isnt great. OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z easily last for more than 15 hours which is incredible. Hence if you are looking for a pair of bluetooth earphones with great batter life, then Oppo Enco M31 aren’t it. Buy the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z if battery life is main priority.

When it comes to charging, these earphones have a USB Type-C port and do support fast charging as well. Fast charging is excellent and you can get 3 hours of music playback by charging these earphones for 15-20 mins. For a full charge, Oppo Enco M31 take about 2 hours.

Final Verdict

Oppo Enco M31 Bluetooth earphones sound really good and I would definitely recommend them if sound quality is your main priority. If you need pair of earphones with exceptional battery life, then you should probably buy the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z.
