Honor Magicbook 15 with Ryzen 5 Launched in India for Rs. 39,990

The budget laptop market in India has been mostly dominated by brands like Acer and Asus. But finally we are starting to see more brands like Xiaomi and Huawei enter the budget laptop segment in India. A couple of months ago Xiaomi launched their Mi Notebook 14 seires and today Huawei announced their MagicBook 15.

Huawei has been making some really good quality laptops for quite some years now. They never launched these laptops in India and that changes today. With Magicbook 15, Huawei or rather Honor is trying to enter the extremely competitive and price-sensitive budget laptop market in India.

Let’s talk about the Honor MagicBook 15 and what it offer’s for the price of Rs. 39,990.

Honor Magicbook 15 Specifications

Honor has made some pretty interesting choices for this laptop.

Design & Display

This new Honor Magicbook 15 has a pretty minimal and industrial design. Definitely reminds you of the Macbook series by Apple. Honor Magicbook 15 comes with an Aluminium Body and weighs in at only 1.53 Kg which is very light weight for a 15.6″ laptop. It also comes with a finger-print sensor, which is embedded into the power button.

As far as the display goes, Honor Magicbook 15 has a 15.6″ 1920×1080 Full HD IPS LCD Display. For this price point, the display seems to be really good, at least on paper.

Input-Output Ports

Here’s where things get interesting. Honor Magicbook 15 has these following ports –

  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type A
  • 1 x USB 3.0 Type A
  • 1 x USB Type C
  • 1 x HDMI Port
  • 1 x 3.5mm Headphone Jack

This laptop has a USB-C port and also supports Fast Charging via the Type-C port. This is how a USB-C port should be implemented in 2020. Xiaomi didn’t include charging via the type-c port in their Mi Notebook series and that doesn’t make any sense.

It’s glad to see that Honor Magicbook 15 comes with a 65W Fast Charger inside the box itself and yes, it is a USB-C Charger as well.

Under the hood

Under the hood, Honor Magicbook 15 comes with these components –

Processor: Ryzen 5 3500U Quad-Core CPU clocked at 2.1Ghz (Turbo-boost up to 3.7Ghz)
GPU: AMD Radeon Vega 8 GPU
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM
Storage: 256GB Nvme SSD Storage
Software: Windows 10 Home

Very interesting choice here. Honor went with the AMD Ryzen 5 + Vega 8 combo which is really good for this price. It would have been great to see a dedicated Nvidia GPU option (maybe at a higher price point) or something. But as of now, this is the only variant that has been launched in India.

Pop-up Camera

Yes, you read that right. A pop-up camera in a laptop. It isn’t as fancy as a smartphone pop-up camera would be. It is basically hidden under a key on the keyboard, and once you press it, the camera will show up. This implementation is okay-ish. At least better than Mi Notebook 14 series where the webcam is bundled separately.

Honor Magicbook 15 comes for a price of Rs. 39,990 and will be sold exclusively via Flipkart from 5th August 2020 8PM (IST). Here’s a link to the product page – Click Here.
